LexiCoil helps you practise English and German official-style exams. This policy explains what data we collect and why.

1. Data we collect

Account data - name, email address, authentication identifiers (via Supabase when enabled).
Learning data - flashcards, exam history, saved exams, answers you submit (synced to our servers when you are signed in).
Usage and quota - exam generation counts, plan (guest / free / Pro), payment status via Stripe.
Technical data - IP address (for guest quota and rate limiting), browser type, cookies/local storage on your device.
AI processing - exam text and your speaking/writing answers may be sent to Anthropic's API to generate or evaluate content. We do not sell this data.

Browser speech recognition (Sprechen Free)

When you tap the microphone in Free Sprechen practice (and in text-only speaking parts), LexiCoil uses your browser's built-in Web Speech API to turn speech into text. LexiCoil does not receive, store, or control your raw audio — only the text transcript in the answer box may be saved as part of your learning data (see above).

How your voice is handled depends on your browser, not on LexiCoil:

Google Chrome and most Chromium browsers (e.g. Edge, Opera, Samsung Internet): by default, audio is sent to Google's speech service for transcription and usually requires an internet connection. Newer Chrome versions can optionally use on-device recognition if the browser enables it; LexiCoil does not set or control that choice.
Safari (macOS / iOS): transcription is handled by Apple's speech service via the browser. Depending on your device and settings, audio may be processed on your device or sent to Apple — see Apple's Siri & Dictation privacy notice.
Firefox: speech recognition is generally not available in standard builds; LexiCoil asks you to type your answer instead.

This is different from optional Sprechen with AI voice (§7 below), where LexiCoil sends your voice to Google Gemini for a live conversation.

2. How we use your data

Provide and improve the LexiCoil service.
Sync your vocabulary and exam history across devices.
Enforce usage quotas and process payments.
Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset).

3. Third parties

We use Supabase (auth/database), Stripe (payments), Netlify (hosting), Anthropic (AI text evaluation), Google Gemini Live (real-time voice conversations when you use Sprechen with AI voice in the pilot), and Google Analytics (usage statistics, only if you accept analytics cookies). When you use the microphone for Free Sprechen transcription, your browser — not LexiCoil — may send audio to Google (Chrome and most Chromium browsers) or Apple (Safari) for speech-to-text. We do not choose that provider; your browser does. Each has its own privacy policy.

4. Your rights

You may request access, correction, or deletion of your account data by emailing [email protected].

5. Cookies and local storage

LexiCoil does not use advertising or third-party marketing cookies today. We store the following in your browser for essential (functional) operation. Optional analytics (Google Analytics 4) loads only if you accept it in the cookie banner.

Session / authentication — HTTP-only cookies and JWT tokens keep you signed in securely (Supabase auth). Duration: until you sign out or the session expires.
Exam and flashcard state — localStorage saves your in-progress exams, saved exams, flashcards, goals, and mastery data so you can continue where you left off. Duration: until you clear site data or delete your account.
Preferences — theme (theme / lc_theme) and similar UI settings. Duration: persistent until cleared.
Cookie consent — lc_cookie_consent remembers your choice (Accept / Reject / Preferences). Duration: until you clear site data or change preferences.
Guest quota — a functional identifier may be stored to enforce fair usage limits for unsigned visitors.
Analytics (optional) — if enabled, Google Analytics (measurement ID G-RTQJVSZBKC) collects anonymised page views and usage events via cookies set by Google. Duration: per Google’s policy; you can disable this anytime in cookie preferences.

Legal basis (EU/CH): essential storage is necessary to provide the service you request (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). Analytics scripts rely on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) and load only after you choose Accept or enable Analytics in Preferences.

You can reopen cookie settings anytime via the footer link in the app (when signed in), from this page using the banner below, or by clearing lc_cookie_consent in your browser.

7. Sprechen with AI voice (optional pilot)

Some Pro users may try an optional pilot feature: a live spoken conversation with an AI partner (Kim, Alex, or Leo) in Sprechen Teil 2. You are never required to use it — text-only Sprechen remains available.

What happens — When you start a voice session, your microphone audio is sent in real time to Google Gemini Live so the conversation can run. LexiCoil receives a text transcript of the session for evaluation (same as other Sprechen answers).
What we do not store — In this pilot, LexiCoil does not save your raw voice recording. You cannot replay the audio later. Only the transcript text may be kept as part of your learning data.
Consent — You must agree explicitly the first time you use Sprechen with AI voice. General signup or the Free browser microphone does not count as consent for this feature.
Evaluation — After the session, your transcript may be evaluated by Anthropic (same AI grading as other Sprechen tasks).

Full policies for stored audio, replay, and deletion of recordings will be added if that functionality ships later.

8. Changes

We may update this policy. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
